Beyond

We don’t stay inside our church walls; we want to be involved in both our local and global community. Partnering with a variety of organizations enables us to serve in a variety of ways. Our service initiatives are divided into three major areas of focus (with some ongoing projects throughout the year). These include: Hunger and Homelessness, Stewardship and Sustainability, and Education and Empowerment.

Volunteer Opportunities & Resources

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat participants work with volunteers from the other Fort Collins Lutheran Churches on the Taylor home in the Harmony Cottages subdivision. No construction experience is necessary—come learn on the job! We need four volunteers for each date. The 2018 building dates are Saturdays January 20, March 24, April 21, and May 5, and June 9. On June 9, we will also need volunteers to provide lunch for the volunteers. Volunteers will work from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Food Bank of Larimer County

Each year during the Lenten season, we partner with the Food Bank and collect both monetary and food donations. During 2018, we will be collecting for the Food Bank’s child nutrition programs. The McBackpacks program provides meals and snacks specifically for children in need on a weekly basis. Click here to access the list of suggested donations for the Backpack Program.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities provides crucial support to those in our community who are experiencing homelessness. The Mission serves hot meals 365 days a year and operates as an overnight shelter. Prior to volunteering in the kitchen at The Mission, please click the link to either download these volunteer forms or set up an online account. Return paper forms to the church office.

The Murphy Center

The Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center for Hope provides many crucial services for those experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. 17 independent agencies operate out of the center, providing assistance with housing, employment, mental health, and much more. Volunteers provide core services such as mail sorting, laundry, guest check in, and food preparation. Street Outreach is also provided by volunteers—supplies and referrals are delivered to people who have yet to access services. If you are interested in volunteering at The Murphy Center, please contact Amie at amie@sothfoco.org.

FoCo Café

FoCo Cafe’s mission is to build community by providing nutritious and delicious meals to the people of Fort Collins regardless of their ability to pay while using mostly local, organic, and sustainably grown ingredients. Volunteers will help prepare meals, serve, and clean. Prior to volunteering at the FoCo Café, please download their volunteer packet.
